‭Arctic skitouring miniweek

‬4 days, 3 nights skitouring trip by Sommarøy Adventure & Sommarøy‬ Arctic Hotel‬ Tromsø ‭
Jump on the plane and meet your guide in Tromsø Airport ready to take you and the group on an adventure in our rugged arctic landscape. After about 1 hour and 15 minutes scenic drive across Whale Island through peaky mountains, impressive glacier carved U-valleys and long steep fjords we arrive on the coast and archipelago where Sommarøy Arctic Hotel will be your home over the next three nights. This is where you eat breakfast, make your lunch from the buffet and will get your daily briefing of today’s ski touring. Too, this is where you finish your day by eating a three course dinner and maybe throwing yourself into the refreshing ocean after a soothing sauna session. You don’t need to be an expert skier or experienced ski touring enthusiast. If you don’t have the gear your guide will set you up and introduce you on how to use the touring and avalanche safety gear.

‬Sommarøy Arctic Hotel Tromsø

Your accommodation is on a secluded little archipelago also famously know as “the arctic caribbean” due to it’s many sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. Especially during the winter/spring months. This archipelago still houses many fisher men who through the winter docks here to deliver their catch as much of the best fishing takes place during the winter months when the migrating cod travels to Norway to reproduce. The archipelago has a little local super market within walking distance from the hotel and if you want to explore the island further, you can find many beautiful spots within walking distance to enjoy the beaches, birds and sunsets over the ocean to the west.

The Arctic light

If you arrive early enough in the season the northern lights might be dancing over the hotel. As you are far from light pollution and have an open horizon, this is a good place to have your northern lights experience. Are you arriving later on then we are fast moving towards the midnight sun and already from end of April it doesn’t really get dark anymore during the night. The long evenings with endless opportunities approaches us day by day and you’ll take part in that transition.

‬Travel guide role‬ ‭

Your guide will be responsible for your daily transfers, equipment, trip planning and safety measures. As we hit dinner timer back on Sommarøy Island your guide will make his goodbye and pick you up in the morning. These evening hours you’re free to use the amenities of the hotel such as gym, sauna and beach to regenerate your body strength for the next day. You’re guide will be available on the phone, but this time is considered for everyone to decompress from the everyday life and sink into the arctic atmosphere where seals, eagles, purpoises and incredible sunsets can be spotted. Guides are minimum avalanche instructors through Norsk Fjellsportforum (NF), or the Canadian Avalanche Association (CAA/SVELAV/FINLAV) or international mountain guides (UIAGM). Rope accessed skiing and glacier crossings are not part of our trips.

Skipper

Skipper is only responsible for carrying out transfers. Skippers hold the D5L Skipper certificate for commercial boating.

Sommarøy Adventure charter boat‬ ‭

Besides transfer by car we do run ski tours where access is with use of our charter boat. This depends totally on the weather conditions, but we try to include this option on at least one of the days.
